Star Wars Revisited

A friend posted this the other day and I found it interesting so want to share. It shows that the despite the perception and awards Han Solo received in Star Wars he was not the one who shot Darth Vader's spacecraft. There is really a hidden hero in the film. Yes, once again stupidity wins the day!

"Type"

I was thinking of a young lady whom I'm fascinated with the other day (as is a course assured to happen). Inadvertently I began to compare her to other women I have had crushes on. That's when I realized I have something I never thought I would. I have a "type"!
In the past I have always thought it foolish when guys talk about what type of girl they like. Maybe I was just around the wrong guys or it came with time however I see a point now to that. A type does not have to do with body types or superficial things. It can also deal with the patterns that you find in your life and those you gain an interest in. For instance if most of the women I find myself interested in have younger siblings. In many of those I know, this seems to contribute to a level of maturity and care. The personality traits go on and on but I am cognizant that knowing what traits attract you and why is healthy to know. If you don't know what really attracted you to a person or why it can lead you into negative relationships without a clue why.
That leads to another problem for me however. I do not know the why. Personally I think I just pick well. I guess that's something else I will end up learning through time.

Hermit

There are times when you have a revelation.
Mine, is to be a hermit.
Plain and simple. The quite life is for me.
I will only let animals be my company.

Don't worry friends and family I will not really become a hermit (yet). I am just writing a poem.

Genius

I read an article yesterday about a young petty criminal that has managed to keep out of the reach of police for about 2 years. The article mentioned several times how smart he was and how he was like a genius. I don't know if he truly is a genius (though the article's evidence of such was a bit sketchy), It takes time to truly realize genius intellect.
The issue I have is that the term of genius and what western society praises and truly honors in the last five years if not five decades has been a disappointment as I look back. We praise criminals who only lookout for themselves. We in the U.S. of America have sat by placidly as our government did things that are sure to be called atrocities by future historians. The ones who aren't trying to whitewash anyway. I can't help but find this humorous as we also point fingers and worry about the world our children grow up in. It's been said many times but, the first step to fixing the world is looking at the faults in yourself. Maybe we all should make sure we are not praising the wrong things as we step up to the alter of life.

Lies

An unfortunate fact about our lives is that lies surround us everyday. This has been a constant since the days of the first men on earth dealt wit each other. The reasons have shifted and changed for hundred of situations from courting a member of the opposite sex (or the same sex sometimes) to igniting wars.
My greatest question has been; when does a lie become a lie though? If a person repeats another person's lie though it is a lie the speaker did not lie themselves so that would make what they are saying the truth to them. As much as lies should be avoided it is also obvious that they are sometimes necessary or wanted deeply due to situations. I for one do not want to tell lies no matter how tempting however. In exchange I must turn to the philosophy that: it is not a lie if the person doesn't ask. In other words avoidance and admission. Though this is in itself a type of lying it is also the only alternative I see available in order to reach the goals of not allowing for lies to exit my mouth and to not tell some people hurtful information.

Woman in the Glass Box

I was talking to a friend the other day and mentioned that they reminded me of a poem or story I had read. When I tried to look for it I found out there are several movies and art pieces with a similar name but could not find the poem I thought I read. So maybe it was a work I had either started or thought of and never did. Anyway here is the poem I created yesterday in honor of the poem/story that never was and the one who inspired it:

"Lady Behind the Glass"
'Do not touch!' The sign is as easily ignored as the fingers that smudge the surface-
of the glass box.
Eyes focus on every move, ignoring all but-
what lies in, the behind the glass.
Men feel a sick excitement while they watch her, unnoticed, go through her routine, their gazes unnoticed.
only to have the pace of heartbeats quicken when she meets his eyes and he draws out her smile-
She,the lady in the glass box.
Finally as lust fills his body and his head is lost in the sparkles of her eyes he smashes the box-
Freeing the one in the glass prison
Soon they are in each others arms while nary he notice his own soul sucked away, Only his body is left in-
the shattered cage in which "love" slept.

My Quotes

As some readers may know I envision myself as a philosopher in training. Here are a few of my own words for myself and others to chew on:
”望みを果たしは難しい”、
"There is always a solution to a problem, the problem is finding it."

Widower

The word widower seems strange. I have to check the word's history and see who or what group decided to use that form. When compared to widow it seems "widower" should refer to the person who died.
Was there was really no other way to do a male version of widow? How about widaw or ido?

There are times when I know I have not grown up fully yet I can say I feel like I am getting closer to the goal

Monday, March 10, 2008

I recently noticed that I prefer to write stories and poems on paper instead of the computer. I used to like to work on the computer starting from the time I was really young and had just learned how to type on it. I wonder if it shows a change in my writing style or is it just that the computer has so many distractions for me?

This weekend I started (and finished) a book,Magic Kingdom for Sale-Sold by Terry Brooks. A course it caused me to wonder:Would I want to buy a Magic Kingdom?

First you have the question. The question you will have even when buying a nonmagical kingdom. Who would sale a kingdom and why? The very act of trying to buy a country raises moral and practical issues. After that you will also have to deal with personal issues seeing that I doubt more subjects of a country will be happy about their home being sold.

Then there is the whole magic element. With that we have dragons which from some sources of authors' imagination are either crazed, evil flying giants of incredible power or from others highly intelligent creatures that are still frankly a lot stronger than me. Between other magical creatures and the possibility that the land's magic might hold some rules you the newcomer would obviously not know your life expectancy would definitely drop by going to that country.

On the other side of the argument it sure would be fun.

Oh by the way I would definitely recommend the Land-Over series to any reader who likes fantasy or witty, funny books

Pictures,写真,사진술

I was just thinking. I have been around a lot of people taking pictures lately and I have been in a lot of photos growing up. When pictures were first made some people said and thought that pictures might steal souls. That has made me wonder ,with the amount of pictures I've had taken of me and if they did steal souls which photo would have it? Would my soul be in an early picture of me as a baby or a more recent picture after I developed my personality. Do all the photos have a part of my soul in them? And most importantly if part of my soul is in a picture can I ever regain it?

Dictators

I watched "The President's Last Bang",a movie about the assassination of Park Chung-hee a few days ago. It made me think about how there have been many dictators in history. Most are viewed harshly and like criminals now but like all people most were not all bad. Some seemed to help develop their countries making life better in some ways even as they dealt harsh treatment on their own people. How is it that the same actions were from the same people. Would they still have helped make the economical and technology changes if they had not been the dictators they were?

Writer's Strike

From the day the news showed Jimmy Kimmel giving food out to the strikers all I've wanted was to join them ask 'when's lunch?' and when it comes grab all I could and run off. Obviously since there have been no news reports of me it's gone off with out anyone noticing. NO I haven't done it but I keep thinking of doing it. Especially Veteran's day when they had their kids. I thought "a day they have kids is sure to be a big lunch day".

From the News coverage of the strike I would think the news is taking the striker's side however most of the times they show them they make me against the writers. Mostly it's the amount of times they show it. This is a problem I've always had with the news they get stuck on one story and keep going to it. Some of the people they talk to are just annoying too. The only non-annoying one I can think of was Jimmy Kimmel and he was avoiding the cameras at the time (and he had food). It also reminded me of how many shows on now that I did not like. When you have to keep naming 3 or 4 shows that you would miss if the writers were gone then that shows there just aren't that many good shows. I do hope the strike gets resolved even if it just so it won't be on the news anymore.

Dubbing in Commercials

I happen to watch a few shows in languages other than english so I also happen to see a few commercials in other languages. I've noticed that a few commercials gearing toward asain groups they will use the same commercial and use a different voice over it and replace a few of the words. As an economical type of guy I don't see a problem with this except the few where you can tell that the voice don't match the person. The worst I've seen lately has been an AT&T which I have seen in 4 languages.English,Korean,Japanese and a Chinese. It was done in English and the Korean doesn't look too bad, at first I thought they had actually re-taped it for Korean with the same lady but the Japanese and Chinese versions are pretty obvious. What I don't get is if you think you have enough of a market to dub a commercial to a group you don't want to just re-tape and find a person to say it in that language?I guess to just show the possible consumer that you cared.

Sayings and Uses!

You know when you think of it most sayings don't make sense. At least not for what they are referencing. Most made since when first used but as it changed and got used for more things lost it's sensibility. The most recent I noticed was "When the cards are down". It makes sense when talking about a card game where you may thing you've won until another player shows his hand is larger or closer to the selected number or whatever. However just today I heard where it hardly means anything. I think I will end up writing about more of these sayings later

There is a Problem

I have noticed a problem with my everyday life. Simply it's hard being anonymous when you have a noticeable haircut. Surprisingly this never occurred to me before. For some reason I seemed to think I could use it sometimes and not others. However recently I've had 2 times when someone saw me at an event yet I didn't notice or recognize them. Interestingly both were at Obons. Both times I found out later that they saw and recognized me while I probably saw them but had no idea.

At the moment I have no idea what to do.

Something I don't Get

I really don't get drinking. Many seem to want or need to drink to have fun. First I don't see the fun in it but to actually plan to drink to have fun makes no since. If you are going to a party or event that isn't fun itself? At a party isn't it more fun to dance and talk to others? When you are going out to eat isn't it more fun to taste new things, find places to visit again and interact with others? I know there is no reason to ask these questions but I was just thinking of this(and lost my journal again!)

Maybe this all comes from me wanting to be as smart as I can be at every moment. I know I never wanted to be drunk since that would me my brain functions would be inhibited. So I admit there are other reasons than not finding it fun that I don't drink. However I still don't see the reason.
